The national student platform for mental health awareness and psychology education. We are a community dedicated to decreasing the stigma around mental health and increasing student knowledge in the fields of psychology and neuroscience.
Mission Statement
The National Student Mental Health Association is a student-led organization committed to advancing mental health awareness and advocacy by providing evidence-backed resources rooted in Psychology and Neuroscience. We empower individuals with the knowledge to lead informed conversations about mental health, challenge stigma, and promote mutual understanding amongst their communities. Through education and outreach we strive to create a culture where mental health is understood, respected, and supported in every community.
The Three Pillars of our Mission Statement
Advocacy
We seek to dismantle the stigma surrounding mental health by advocating for policy changes in schools and fostering an inclusive environment where students can learn how to take action.
Education
We seek to reduce barriers surrounding access to academic information about psychology by producing content that makes complex psychological concepts approachable to students everywhere.
Publication
We provide a dedicated platform for student scholarship, allowing members to publish original articles that seek advance our mission statement goals.
What We Do
Student Mental Health Magazine
A dedicated digital platform for student scholarship. We provide a space for members to publish original articles about mental health, psychology, neuroscience, and the ongoing research within these subject matters.
Peer-Led Workshops
Member-led sessions on psychological concepts related to mental health. These workshops offer students the opportunity to learn more about the biological and cognitive mechanisms related to mental health, as well as strategies to deal with mental health.
National Association Network
We partner with high schools in the Northeast and across the United States to create chapters that work together to spread awareness about mental health. This cross-school collaboration facilitates a national student community dedicated to improving access mental health resources.
Professional Seminars
We invite professionals in the fields of psychology and neuroscience to discuss their current research and its broader impact on mental health outcomes. These opportunities offer students a great way to interact and network with leaders in these fields.
